While we all agree that you must have a website in order to be noticed in today’s market, if you do it wrong then you are still not going to succeed online. Here’s the 4 things that you need to sort ASAP on your website. If not, you’re behind the ball before the game has even kicked off.
- It’s not mobile friendly. For SEO purposes and for good customer experience your website must be mobile friendly. Change to the Google algorithm means that websites which are mobile friendly will receive more favourable search rankings. Viewers are much more likely to visit your website on a mobile device than on a PC or laptop (even if that’s where they eventually convert) so it’s imperative that your website is readable, intuitive and functional on a mobile device.
- Don’t have too much text but answer the questions. Having too much text, or large chunks of text, will bore readers and they are more likely to click off. As will not using the website copy to tell the viewers what they want to know and answering their questions. Your website copy should be informative, clear, precise and easy to read (from both a design and a readability point of view). Once your copy has clearly presented your message and answered all the relevant questions stop writing. That said, ideally for SEO purposes pages and blogs should have a minimum of 300 words.
- Making contacting you easy. Okay, so almost everyone knows that you need to have a contact form on your website and that form needs to be simple to complete and relevant. But, you need to go a step further and ensuring that you or your business is easy to contact. Consider adding your email address and phone number. Consider functionality like ‘tap to call’ capabilities. The easier you make it for readers to make contact the more likely it is that they will convert. Don’t forget to include at least one (more than one is better again) CTA or call to action on each page of your website.
- Old blogs. When readers see that your blog posts are old then they make one of two assumptions. Firstly, that you don’t invest in your business enough to have regular, up-to-date content on your blog page. Or, worse yet, that your blog hasn’t been updated because you are no longer in business. Both bad outcomes. So set up a schedule to blog on a regular basis. If this is something you struggle with because of the writing or time aspect, considering getting some help.
Website Design Centre can help with all of these aspects – updating your blog on a regular basis, ensuring your website is mobile friendly, adding relevant CTAs and contact information and even website copywriting to not only fit your design but to break down the readers’ barriers to conversion.
