Big Data versus Content

Big Data Content

In an age where technology can help us get our message to the right person, for a product or service they may want, on a device they are currently using, and that data be measurable, it all still comes down to the quality of the message.

You may have the numbers, you may have the right format, you may even target the right audience at the right time, but if the content you are putting in front of them is rubbish, then the effort, time and money has all been for nothing.

Measurement tools are emerging that make content more efficient by helping to target the right audience, and even which version of the content is the best fit, without first sorting the right content, your message is going nowhere and may even cause an adverse reaction.

For example, Facebook is currently working on ‘pre-tests’ – the ability to determine what content will be the most effective in driving ROI so that businesses receive better return on ad spend (ROAS) but this data is only relevant if the advert is well written and on point in the first place.

Regardless of whether you believe content is king or that big data and content now share the title, for now the most important factor is still – people. People need to both create great content and manage that content to ensure that results are achieved.

To begin with you need to create a content strategy – determine what goals your content needs to achieve (awareness, engagement, lead generation, sales), outline a schedule, ensure that the content is measurable (before you publish it), understand who your reader is and what they want to read, determine how your audience can be reached and how they like to engage (website copy, videos, blogs, articles and on laptop, tablet, or mobile). Once you get your content and your message sorted, the data will be easier to manage.

The content needs to be focused on first and the data analysed second to ensure the future content hits the mark.
